WASHINGTON - Those who think that Muslim countries and pro-terrorist attitudes go hand-in-hand might be shocked by new polling research: Americans are more approving of terrorist attacks against civilians than any major Muslim country except for Nigeria.
The survey, conducted in December 2006 by the University of Maryland's prestigious Program on International Public Attitudes, shows that only 46 percent of Americans think that "bombing and other attacks intentionally aimed at civilians" are "never justified," while 24 percent believe these attacks are "often or sometimes justified."
Contrast those numbers with 2006 polling results from the world's most-populous Muslim countries – Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nigeria. Terror Free Tomorrow, the organization I lead, found that 74 percent of respondents in Indonesia agreed that terrorist attacks are "never justified"; in Pakistan, that figure was 86 percent; in Bangladesh, 81 percent.
Do these findings mean that Americans are closet terrorist sympathizers?
Hardly. Yet, far too often, Americans and other Westerners seem willing to draw that conclusion about Muslims. Public opinion surveys in the United States and Europe show that nearly half of Westerners associate Islam with violence and Muslims with terrorists. Given the many radicals who commit violence in the name of Islam around the world, that's an understandable polling result.
But these stereotypes, affirmed by simplistic media coverage and many radicals themselves, are not supported by the facts – and they are detrimental to the war on terror. When the West wrongly attributes radical views to all of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims, it perpetuates a myth that has the very real effect of marginalizing critical allies in the war on terror.

My reply: First, you're wrong. Religious institutions (including their flocks) have not been receptive to debates with the scientific community. Many of those who championed the facts (the earth is a sphere-not flat, the earth revolves around the sun-not vise versa, viruses cause illness-not demons) were simply killed off by the religious machine. Second, modern science has only been around for about 300 years. Philosophers have hypothetically killed god long ago. Science is now severing the god head.

During the day, Davis may see multiple patients and pray for them at different moments. He charges them $20 to $40 for the day, saying, "I think that it would be considered modest by any standard."
The outlook for the Christian Science coverage proposal is uncertain.
Final action on health care is still weeks away, and scores of changes and tweaks are likely to be made in the House and Senate before final legislation is approved.
Two House committees voted to include the measure in their versions of the overhaul, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., stripped it from the consolidated House bill in response to arguments that it was unconstitutional.
Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is considering whether to include it in the overhaul bill he sends to the Senate floor.
So far as the health care overhaul is concerned, the Christian Science provision would apply only to insurance policies offered by a proposed insurance exchange where consumers could shop for policies that meet standards set by the government.
Critics say the effect would be broader, conferring medical legitimacy on practices that lie outside the realm of science.

I would venture an educated guess that, in fact, most Link card users are white, but that's based simply on demographic statistics that the majority of the population is, well, white. (Of course that assumption does not hold well for crime statistics, but that's another discussion for another day)

No doubt here is a case that I suspect borders on abusing the system...but even I, who supports going after those who fraudulently abuse the system, wonder if they are just using the system in a manner that allows it to be used. It is a screwy system either way for all those who use it. In all reality I cannot understand how fraud is allowed if we have state employees hired to monitor those applicants and receivers of these tax dollars. Obviously I am naive to the 'art of fraud'.
We who do not use the system though can and should complain about the abusers using the valid points as many have mentioned here. Yes, it is costing us all to pay for these services! Yet what we also need to focus on is the system itself and those we elect who have the power to change these programs. I admit to reading boring documents like state budgets and as someone mentioned earlier, our state is not doing too well these days. Thank who we want to blame I suppose, but what we cannot afford is fraud from anyone taking tax dollars they do not legally qualify for.
I do agree with a former poster that drug testing should be mandatory for anyone taking public monies or aid. Personally I believe all who apply for a drivers license or have one renewed should be drug tested. But that is another argument entirely.

I think it not anyone business what other ppl do , And yes i have a LINk card , I also go to school and my hubby works and we claim everything to them Sometimes like now when jobs are hard to come by and money is tight we need help. and yes ppl do scam them but the amount of things they have does not mean a darn thing, I haver nice things but most of it was given to me by family , so because i have nice stuff and do not walk around like a bum nor do my 4 kids then does that mean we are scamming the state?!?!? I think not .. That guy if you can get in big trouble for paying ppl to spy on other ppl .. DID U KNOW THAT !?!? I guess not because you are to worried about everyone else and what they might be doing, and not what is really going on, Dude get a life, and grow up.
