Sandstrom was a Swedish researcher and writer who specialized in economic and technological history. While researching for this book, he was particularly struck by the almost complete neglect in works of mining history, and in general literature of the human aspect of mining and tunnelling.

This book was purchased in Sweden by this seller and contains detailed descriptions of underground work in that country as well as in the Alps. Apparently a first edition, not a reprint.
